MEDICAL WIG INSURANCE

MEDICAL WIG INSURANCE

If you require a wig or hair piece for an existing medical condition, you may be eligible for reimbursement from your health insurance provider. If you do not have health coverage through an independent insurance provider, you may be eligible to submit your receipts to Internal Revenue Agency, as additional medical expenses.

Coverage and your eligibility will vary greatly by your health insurance provider. In order to find out if you’re eligible for medical prosthetic wig coverage, Zeena Hair Extensions recommends following the following step:

Contact your health insurance company to find out if a medical hair replacement unit or cranial hair prosthesis wig qualifies for reimbursement.

PLEASE NOTE: It’s important to use the correct terminology. For correct information about medical coverage, ensure you use the words ‘medical cranial prosthetic hair wig’ with your insurance representative.

Once you’ve confirmed you have medical coverage for your Human Hair Cranial Prosthesis, follow these steps, to streamline your insurance reimbursement  claim process:

  1. You will need to obtain a prescription from your doctor. Terminology is very important at this stage. Confirm with your insurance company, exactly what they want your doctor to write on the prescription, so that there is absolutely no discrepancy.
  2. After purchasing your wig, Zeena Hair Extensions will provide you with a sales receipt for a medical hair prosthesis.
  3. Submit your claim with your prescription AND your sales receipt  which will include Our Federal Tax ID. Along with Procedure Code for the wig from your insurance provider (S8095, A9282,  and 99199 or Durable Medical Equipment. are the most commonly used codes)
  • Have your doctor mention why the cranial prosthesis is a Durable Medical Equipment (DME).
  • Your insurance may also request a National Provider Identifier (NPI) code. You’ll be able to get this from your doctor to put on your claim file.

For medical hair loss such as alopecia, the word ‘alopecia’ alone doesn’t describe the diagnose. Make sure your doctor specifically notation on your prescription what type of alopecia it is (Alopecia Totalis, Alopecia Areata, or Alopecia Universalis). If your hair loss is due to other conditions, be sure to have your doctor write specifically what it is in scientific terms.

Types of hair loss for insurance reimbursement:

  • Medical issue related hair loss

  • Cancer-related hair loss

  • Radiation-related hair loss

  • Alopecia hair loss

  • Thyroid hair loss

  • Kidney related hair loss
